Expertise keywords

In what do you consider yourself an expert or near-expert? Please enter a short list of key words and phrases that describe your main skills and areas of expertise. (For example: programming in C and Java, ethnography, computer vision, industrial design, tuba performance...)

Research groups

What research groups are you most interested in joining? Please look at Media Lab Europe's research page for more information about each group. Please select at most 3 groups from the list below. Do not choose every group! We receive a very large number of applications, and this list helps us prioritize who will read your application; it will not eliminate you from consideration for the groups you did not select. Specific positions (optional)

Most research groups recruit directly from the Lab's general call for research associate applications, but some groups have advertised on the Lab's recruitment page for research associates with specific kinds of skills and backgrounds. If you wish to target your application to one or more of these specific calls, please enter the specific recruitment codes of those positions here (these codes may be found in the advertisements). Entering a code here will not eliminate you from consideration for other general positions; it merely helps us prioritize who will read your application.

Timing information

Would you be available to commence a research associateship on approximately the 1st of September of this year?
Yes No

Research associateships are offered for terms of two years. Would you be available for this full duration?
Yes No

Most research associateships commence on the 1st of September and last for 2 years (no initial appointments are made for more than 2 years). However, sometimes hires are made earlier or later in the year or last for different periods of time. If you are able to begin your fellowship earlier in the year, or if you are not able to begin it until later, or if you are interested in a term shorter than 2 years, please give detailed information below:

Academic programme arrangements (optional)

Media Lab Europe does not grant traditional academic degrees at this time. However, it may be possible to pursue a degree at another institution while in residence as a research associate at Media Lab Europe if a suitable arrangement can be forged among all the parties involved, including the academic institution in question, your academic advisor at that institution, and the Media Lab Europe principal investigator leading the group you wish to join. If you have already been accepted or are currently enrolled in an academic degree programme and you are interested in pursuing an arrangement like this, please give detailed information below. Please note there is no guarantee that Media Lab Europe would be able to support such an arrangement, so please state clearly if you would not be able to join our Lab without it.

Letters of recommendation

Two letters of recommendation are required as part of your application. These letters can come from professors of courses you have taken; supervisors of internships, practicums, or research; people for whom you worked during summers or while in school and if appropriate, supervisors of full-time professional employment...

Letters of recommendation should ideally comment on things like: skills and performance in comparison to others in a specified group, personal and professional maturity, enthusiasm and initiative, ability to work individually and in groups, preparedness for a research role at Media Lab Europe, and so on.

Please ask your referees to submit their letters directly to associateships@medialabeurope.org and to put your full name as specified on this application form followed by the word "RECOMMENDATION" on the subject line of the email. These reference letters may be written in plain text in the email or included in an attached document (PDF format is preferred).

Please enter the requested information for your two referees. You may leave fields blank if you feel they do not apply to a particular referee.
