Herve was born in Benin, West Africa, but spent most of his life in France. He spent two years studying French contemporary history and sociology. That led him to study anthropology and apply for a masters program specializing in African studies. His masters thesis examined kids' food habits in African immigrant families in France.
Herve's research activities at Media Lab Europe focus on kids' culture and learning. A continuing, intense collaboration with the MIT Media Lab called Toy Symphony is giving him the opportunity to design workshops that help kids use new musical instruments and then to play these instruments with a real orchestra.
Herve is also interested in designing new interfaces for kids. His current project is the Immersive Book, an electronically augmented book which provides a full immersion into the text through sound and touch.
