Fred Cummins
Consulting Research Scientist
Adaptive Speech Interfaces group

Dr. Fred Cummins earned a Ph.D. in Cognitive Science and Linguistics from Indiana University. He is currently based in University College Dublin, after returning from postdoctoral positions in both Chicago and Switzerland. He also directs research at Media Lab Europe in the Adaptive Speech Interfaces group.
Much of Fred's research has investigated speech and the precise timing and control mechanism which underlie the act of speaking. His studies have explicitly tried to link the mechanisms underlying speaking with those which are responsible for other skilled actions such as walking, reaching or juggling.
