Brendan Tuohy was appointed Secretary General of the Department of Public Enterprise in January 2000. The Department is responsible for the transport, energy and communications sectors. It also exercises the shareholder responsibilities in relation to the commercial State companies that operate in these sectors.
Previously, Tuohy was the Assistant Secretary in the Department of Transport, Energy and Communications with responsibility for Exploration & Mining, Geological Survey, Petroleum Affairs and Corporate Services, including Strategic Management. He also took over responsibility for telecommunications in 1997.
