Elena was born in
Lanzarote, one of those paradise Spanish islands where everyone wants to be, but she just couldn't wait
to explore other places in the world and realize
her dreams. She has spent time in Barcelona, Tenerife, Paris, London, Braunschweig, Munich, and now Dublin.
Dedicated to fashion design and production from a very early age, she also
spent some years studying law at her father's wish. As soon as possible she
resumed her personal aspirations and gained a Licenciatura (5 year degree) in
Fine Arts from the
University of La Laguna in Spain. During this period she spent one year
in a fellowship to specialize in graphic design and multimedia at the
Hochschule für bildende Künste in Germany, where she also took courses in
industrial design and ergonomics together with the future designers of Volkswagen.
To quench her interest in cultures and languages, she spent summers in France
and Great Britain where she perfected her French and English, in addition to
the German in which she was already fluent. She has worked as a multimedia designer
for her university in Tenerife and as a freelancer for other companies such
as
El Planeta X y Hexacto
Canarias. She has taught web design for both public and private organizations,
and she has also worked as an assistant fashion designer for
Rena Lange in Munich.
With her fashion designs and other artifacts flying around in her head constantly,
Elena decided to taste the creative and innovative ambience of
Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. Here she learned
more about textiles of the future so she could be able to realize her clothing
designs that not only cover our bodies and show our personalities but also make
us feel more complete and connected to each other and the world.
With these ideas and desires, Elena joined Media Lab Europe as a researcher
in the Human Connectedness group.
