Ann Riordan
Member, Board of Directors

Ann Riordan recently retired as Country Manager, Microsoft Ireland. A recipient of the "Bill Gates award for excellence", she established Microsoft's sales and marketing office in Ireland in 1990. Ann served on the Information Society Steering Committee in 1996 and is also a member of the Irish Council for Science, Technology and Innovation. Ann is committed and convinced that Ireland can play aleading role in Europe as the world moves towards an information economy. Ann also drives Microsoft's community affairs programs in Ireland and was involved in highly successful initiatives including "Library's On Line", Tramlines and Interactive school projects for chronically ill children in hospital.

The "Library's on Line" program gives the community free access to the Internet, educational and business software and to personal computers. The hospital's project enables sick children in hospital to link into their school thru video links and e-mail and maintain relationships with their school friends. Tramlines was unique and innovative project that provided long-term unemployed people with the skills needed to obtain high-paid, professional jobs in the Information Technology sector. The success of this project led to the formation of FIT (Fast Track to IT) an initiative supported by the IT Industry and the Irish Government to skill 3500 long-term unemployed people for professional jobs in the computer industry. Ann serves as a member of the Board of FIT. She also as a member of the Board of Media Lab Europe Europe and Vice Chair of Tourism Ireland - a North/South Tourism Marketing Company. In recognition of Microsoft Ireland's achievements, Ann was honoured at the 1996 Microsoft Global Summit, when presented with the "Bill Gates award for Excellence".
