Michael Naimark
Member, Board of Advisors

Michael Naimark held a research appointment in arts and media at Interval Research Corporation from 1992-2000. As an independent media artist from 1980 to 1992, he produced artworks in conjunction with the Paris Metro, the Exploratorium, the ZKM, and the Banff Centre for the Arts and consulted for companies including Atari, Lucasfilm, Apple and Panavision. He was instrumental in making the first interactive video at MIT in the late 1970s and was on the original design team for the MIT Media Laboratory. He works extensively with field cinematography and immersive projection, and his art projects have been exhibited internationally.

Naimark has held faculty positions at the San Francisco Art Institute, San Francisco State University, California Institute of the Arts, MIT, and the University of Michigan. He is on the Editorial Boards of Presence and Leonardo Electronic Almanac and has been a member of the Society for Visual Anthropology since 1984. He created a B.S. in Cybernetic Systems as an independent major from the University of Michigan in 1974 and received an M.S. in Visual Studies and Environmental Art from MIT in 1979. In 1998 he was the jury chair for Interactive Art at Ars Electronica.

Currently Naimark is pursuing a webcam venture called Kundi.com, writes a monthly column for Creative Disturbance, and serves on the Board of Directors of the GroundZero Foundation.
