James Harris
Research Associate
Human Connectedness group

Going through Brown University, James departed with a ScB with Honors, Magna Cum Laude and ScM in Electrical Engineering. Afterwards, James went to Sun Microsystems outside of Boston, U.S.A. to work on the UltraSPARC V. Over the three-plus years, work was completed on virtually every type of design in several capacities. Not only managing several mask designers to properly assemble the physical layout, James had to insure the electrical correctness of his designs. Several millions of devices and hundreds of wires in a small area is no easy task. James was fortunate enough to layout and simulate his own SRAM cell that featured a differential read port and a single-ended modular 8 write port. Previous jobs also included a stint as a programmer for the internet site The Motley Fool.

Reaching forward to regain the eclectic mix of people that first drew James to Brown University, James landed at Media Lab Europe as a Research Associate. Research interests include technology to facilitate cooperation, the "team" concept, and general topics in restoring the human factor in technological advances. Other than an interest in creating new ways people can interact, James is interested in all sports, music, and travel. Favorite of all sports is ultimate frisbee, and James was a member of the 2000 UPA College National Championship team. Born and raised in Washington, D.C., the change of scenery in Ireland is a welcome deviation.
