This is facilitated through the development of the "Firewire Nervous System", a high speed data transfer network that will run throughout the robot and provide a data backbone for sensor and actuator functionality. |

As IEEE 1394 Firewire supports the hot pluging and daisy-chaining of up to 63 peripherals with data transfer rates of up to 400 MBits/s, this provides a rich standardised connectivity paradigm for robotics.
This system is designed to directly facilitate the Plug 'n Play modularity of sensor and actuator functionality on the robot.
